Blood Pressure - Inderal LA (Propranolol generic) and Cozaar good combination? I take Inderal long acting 80 mg 1 time per day. My BP still runs a little high. My cardiologist prescribed Cozaar 50 mg in addition. Just wondering if anyone taking Inderal or propranolol (generic for Inderal) has taken this combo and how they did? Any side effects?

Menthoids replied: "Cozaar is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist. What ?? This means it stops you making stuff that constricts blood vessels, hence lowering BP. The Inderal (LA - Long Acting) is a Beta Blocker, which helps stop the 'go harder' signals from your body to your heart, also lowering BP. It is often useful to use more than 1 BP lowering (antihypertensive) medication to get that old BP down where you want it. This is a very safe combo and there are no extra side effects from taking the medications individually. It is always a good idea when starting a new BP med to get regular BP checks to get the doseage right for you, everyone responds differently, and it depends why the BP is high too. Hope this helps."

Blood Pressure Medication - Side Effects? I'm a 61 year old male with high BP ( It's a family thing) and was first detected some 20 years ago. Have been on the various medications over the years and was on the usual combination of beta blocker, ACE and diuretic for the longest time with very little problems. When beta blockers became the bad boys about a year ago I changed to Cozaar Comp and found that I became dizzy when mounting stairs or jumping out of the car - classic hypotension episodes to my mind. Told GP who changed me to Losec with the same results, if not worse. Tried Cozaar again taking morning and evening instead of one a day but same problem if not worse. As an experiment stopped taking medication and as expected BP risen to unacceptable levels 165/115 but no problems. Any one experienced same? any ideas? It's really unpleasant not being able to run after a ball with my Grandson for fear of a dizzy attack and they can be severe. Otherwise no health problems and not diabetic.

Stevie B replied: "One of the side effects of not taking medication is, well, death. Maybe not tomorrow, or the next day, but sometime in the future and before it should. So keep taking em, and lose some weight - I can see from here that you are carrying a few too many pounds. Extra weight put strain on the heart, but you know all about that don't you, so the medication is the lesser of two evils. Good Luck!"

gizzaclue replied: "You obviously have a long history of hypertension....me too. Do not adjust your medication yourself, let the doctor do that. I'd be inclined to return to your GP and let him know your symptoms. There are plenty of medicines available for this condition, perhaps this combination of drugs doesn't suit you. Also, I've been on beta blockers for over 20 years and have not been advised to stop them. If, on the rare occasion I do forget to take it my symptoms are much worse!! Just a thought. Hope things improve."

raymond m replied: "well, high blood pressure is nothing to play with and if you are experiencing dizziness it's because of the side effects of the the medication. well, as of you not being able to run with you grandson, i get a feeling at 61 you wasn't doing all that much running in the first place. hahahaha. stick to your meds and if you have any more question about the side effects of your medication or what they do. go to. and if doesn't help you, consult your doctor and let him or her know exactly what is going on with you. that's my opinion"
